Nestled just steps from the ferry terminal in Cozumel, Agave Cocktail Bar offers a hidden gem experience for cocktail lovers and aficionados of authentic Mexican libations. This uniquely intimate spot, discreetly marked by a modest neon sign, invites you to discover a world of expertly crafted cocktails with a distinctly local flair. Its location on Av. Lic. Benito Juárez Rafael E. Melgar Centro positions it perfectly for a memorable stop before or after exploring the vibrant island.
Agave Cocktail Bar stands out not merely for its setting but for the quality and artistry of its drinks. Guests repeatedly praise the fresh, handcrafted cocktails — a welcome contrast to the overly sweet, premixed options found elsewhere. The tamarind margarita emerges as a must-try, celebrated for its perfectly balanced tartness and authentic Mexican roots. The bar’s signature offerings, such as La Bruja, Pirata Morales, and the intriguing Ride to Mexico flight, showcase a breadth of flavors and spirits that tell a story, enriched by the bartender’s knowledgeable and passionate explanations of each liquor’s origin and nuances.
The bartender is often highlighted as the true heart of Agave Cocktail Bar — friendly, welcoming, and deeply skilled. This personal touch elevates the experience from a mere drink stop to a memorable interaction. One guest even felt compelled to give “one more star” for the bartender’s charisma and expertise, noting the care and attention that goes into every pour. Whether you’re a casual visitor or a cocktail connoisseur, the staff’s authentic engagement enhances the cozy ambiance.
For those who appreciate the finer details, Agave offers more than just cocktails. The outside deck provides a relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy a cigar while people-watching. There's a laid-back vibe underscored by great music, especially once the DJ sets the mood, blending seamlessly with warm island evenings. The rooftop seating adds another dimension to the experience, turning a night out into something truly special.
While the absence of prominent signage might initially challenge those unfamiliar with the area, many guests find the discovery part of the charm—like uncovering a secret oasis. Despite its modest exterior, Agave delivers 10 out of 10 in value, atmosphere, and quality by local and international standards alike.
Whether you're looking for a smooth martini crafted with premium Tromba tequila, a bold tamarind margarita, or a complete tasting journey through Mexican spirits, Agave Cocktail Bar beckons as a must-visit destination in Cozumel. It perfectly balances approachable friendliness with professional craftsmanship, ensuring every sip is as memorable as the island itself.
Let me first say that this place was hard to find! There is no discernible signage anywhere (other than a tiny neon sign right at the entrance, which we didn’t see until we were 3 ft away). Nevertheless, I am so glad we didn’t give up and finally found it! My husband and I stopped in for a couple of quick drinks before returning to PDC on the ferry. The bartender was very friendly and chatted with us while making our cocktails. The drinks here are top notch! High quality ingredients/liquors at VERY reasonable prices. This was also the only place we went to in Mexico that offered us complimentary drinking water! We were sad that we couldn’t stay longer… Agave will definitely be on our list the next time we’re in Cozumel!
Can confirm 10/10. Rooftop right best Fat Tuesday. By Australian standards very well priced. Excellent cocktail. Trust the bartender, they know their stuff here.
Fresh Cocktails + Cigars! If you love fresh made cocktails and not the sweet pre-made stuff, then this is the place for you. And, if they have it, order the tamarind margarita. Recently rebranded, this bar is a great stop right off the ferry terminal (next to Fat Tuesday but go there if you want gross sweet cocktails). Anyway, for cigar lovers, grabs a cigar and sit on the outside deck to people watch. The food was good too but I only grabbed an appetizer (guac with chips and pastor). Definitely recommended.
This bar was incredible. I love good craft cocktails and have patronized many cocktail bars and this was one of the best I have ever visited. We tried three of their four signature cocktails and all of them were incredible! The bartender was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about all the liquor they had to offer. I also had the 'ride to Mexico' flight and it was an incredible experience. Each one came with a detailed description of the liquor, including how it is made and its history, as well as a small food pairing. The bartender was then able to expertly answer any questions I had. If you like any of the liquors you can then buy some bottles from them that would be a challenge to find elsewhere (though one of the ones I wanted was unavailable). It was truly an incredible experience and I am glad that places like this are showing people what craft cocktails can really be.
Can I add 1 more star for the bartender please!! Yummy drinks, we tried all the signature drinks. If you have to choose 2 I’d say “La Bruja” and “Pirata Morales” to it off with “ ride to Mexico”. The bartender explained all the liquors, their stories, region etc and is very sweet. She made me a regular martini with Tromba which was delicious. Music was great once the dj showed up. Food: won’t comment a whole lot, we tried vegetarian kebabs, the basket looked beautiful and they tasted fine. All in all a night well spent and both of us were happily drunk. money well spent!!
Not sure what name this location is really using now. This used to be Cocomamma Tiki and is was the best to visit. Google Maps says Agave Cocktail Bar. None of the locals knew of this place. Everything inside uses the name Divino Placer. There are a few Tiki Drinks left on the menu and I was happy to see that. I tried the Painkiller and the Mai Tai and they were OK. Not the best I've had but far from the worst. The food was good as well. Only "complaint" was that the music was very loud. I get it, people come here to party but this bar does not give off those kind of vibes. Definitely worth the visit if you travel this way.
Conveniently located near the ferry pier this is an amazing bar that you should not miss. It is not the typical tourist bar. It is a tiki bar and looks unpretentious when you go in but is a great place to taste and learn more about mezcal in particular. This is not mass market mezcal but small production artisanal mezcal from various regions that demonstrate the same range of flavours and expression of terroir as is found in the highlands of Scotland for whisky. Taste and purchase bottles that you will not easily find elsewhere with extremely knowledgeable staff. Israel in particular is a passionate and knowledgeable guide. Skip the usual things you do in Cozumel and come here! Look for their small neon sign near Fat Tuesdays - it is on the second floor
